Surgical Technology Class

The Surgical Technology curriculum prepares individuals to assist in the care of the surgical patient in the operating room and to function as a member of the surgical team. Students will apply theoretical knowledge to the care of patients undergoing surgery and develop skills necessary to prepare supplies, equipment, and instruments; maintain aseptic conditions; prepare patients for surgery; and assist surgeons during operations.

Careers 
Employment opportunities include labor/delivery/emergency departments, inpatient/ outpatient surgery centers, dialysis units/ facilities, physicians’ offices, and central supply processing units. Students of Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited programs are required to take the national certification exam administered by the National Board on Certification in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) within a four week period prior to or after graduation.

NOTE: The Surgical Technology program is a limited-enrollment program. Eligible applicants are admitted on a space available basis to the program in the fall semester, provided they have met both general and program admission requirements and are offered admission. Individuals who are interested in the program must follow instructions and meet all requirements found on the Surgical Technology Admissions Information page.

Pre-Health Sciences Requirements

Please complete the following four steps to complete the admissions process.


Step 1: Complete an RCC Application for Admission.


Step 2: Complete the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA). You will need to enter RCC’s school code: 002958.


Step 3: Request an OFFICIAL transcript from your high school/GED and all colleges attended. You may bring sealed copies of your transcripts to us, or institutions can send transcripts directly to RCC’s Admissions Office.


Step 4: Come by our office in person to speak with an admissions counselor who will discuss your program of study and placement test requirements
