Student Conduct Code
Rockingham Community College students are
responsible citizens. As such, students:
1. obey national, state, and local laws;
2. act at all times as mature persons;
3. are courteous to instructors, fellow students and to the public;
4. are honest in academic work and in dealing with others;
5. respect the property of the College and of fellow students;
6. exercise reasonable care in the use of books, furniture, and buildings;
7. observe all college regulations.
Standards of Student Behavior
Any action performed on the campus of
Rockingham Community Colege or at any activity sponsored by or officially affilated with
the College will be defined as being a violation of the standards of student behavior
provided:
The action interferes with the normal
classroom acitivity or,
The action directly precipitates physical
violence resulting in bodily injury or
property damage; or,
The action is a violation of the duly
established regulations of the College, Administration, or the laws of the State of North
Carolina or of the United States of America.
ACADEMIC HONESTY POLICY
Students are expected to maintain high
academic standards. To ensure these standards, academic honesty is a crucial and basic
aspect for student success. Cheating, plagiarizing, falsifying results of study, or
facilitating academic dishonesty is prohibited and can result in sanctions as extreme as
supension from class(es) and/or RCC.
DUE PROCESS-STUDENTS
Under the provisions of RCC due process
procedures, students are entitled to a hearing to review their dismissal or suspension for
academic or disciplinary reasons. the prupose of this policy is to protect the
constitutional rights of the students at Rockingham Community College by establishing due
process procedures appropriate to a college.
DEFINITIONS
Dismissal: Termination of a student from
the college for any reason.
Suspension: When a student is prohibited from attending class for any time period for any
reason.
PROCEDURE
This due process procedure encompasses the
following basic elements, which are applicable both to cases of dismissal and suspension
of students.
After either suspension or dismissal
action has been taken against a student, he/she may appeal such action by notifying the
Dean of Student Services in writing within two working days.
The Dean of Student Services will notify
the President or Executive Vice President who, in turn, will appoint three individuals who
will hear the concerns of the student within five working days. The person to chair the
committee will also be designated by the President or the Executive Vice President.
The chairman of the committee may request
that appropriate individuals attend the hearing to present information and/or material
relevant to the case.
The student may be accompanied by an
on-campus person who may give advice or serve as a spokesperson upon request.
Whithin 48 hours after the hearing, the
committee will make recommendations to the President based on tis findings.
The President will either accept or
reject the recommendations of the committee within 24 hours.
If the student is not satisfied with the
President's decision, he/she may file notice of appeal with the President within three
working days.
A committee of the Board of Trustees will
hear the appeal within five working days and render a decision within 48 hours that will
be final.
