WENTWORTH–The RCC Men’s Baseball Team finished preseason play winning 6 out of 7.
On March 14, the Eagles won their first game against Montgomery College 4-0 with Walker Joyce throwing a 7 inning complete game shut-out and striking out 11 batters. Zack Mcginnis led the way offensively batting 2 for 2 with a triple and 2 runs score. In game 2 against Montgomery College, the Eagles lost 5-3. Austin Huss took the loss throwing 3 – 2/3 innings allowing only one earned run. The Bullpen threw scoreless rest of game.
The Eagles won both games against College of Faith on March 17. In the first matchup Dominic Colosimo threw 6 strong innings. The offense was led by Blake Cleverley going 2 for 3, including a double and 2 RBIs. Zach Mcginnis went 2-4 and scored 1 run. The Eagles finished the first game 4-0. In game 2 against College of Faith, the Eagles won 12-2 with Austin Bradley throwing a complete game allowing only 2 runs for the Eagles’ win. The offense was led by Lucas Tipton, Zach Mcginnis, Mike Connelly, and Noah Strickland all with multiple hits.
In the final preseason game on March 18, the Eagles beat Piedmont International University 15-5. Robbie Robledo secured the win by throwing 4 strong innings. Cejay Chaparro closed it out. The offense was led by Chayce Aldridge and Jehu Zarate with 3 hits and 3 RBIs a piece.
“We’re starting to turn the curve and play better as a team,” said RCC Eagles Baseball Coach Reece Honeycutt. “I have high expectations for our ball team.”
The Eagles face Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton, VA this weekend for the first games of conference play. The next home game is April 7 at 12:00PM against Danville Community College.
Tropical G Food Truck will be on hand offering hamburgers, hotdogs, and smoothies.
