MBA – Master of Business Administration, Healthcare – Regis University

BS – Business Administration -Averett College

AAS – Registered Health Administrator – Central Virginia Community College

What do you have planned for the weekend? This is the first question that Medical Office Administration Faculty Dawn Moser often asks her students at the beginning of each week.

“Balance is critical for our students to juggle family, work, and school,” said Moser. “Although I have very high expectations for my students it is so important that they spend time with family and make time for themselves. Learning how to balance life’s demands can be instrumental in determining when my students graduate and find the employment they desire.”

Students in the Medical Office Administration program are prepared to handle customer service, coding, and reception duties. The primary focus is on medical coding and customer service. Students learn the importance of accuracy in coding since this task affects the reimbursements for physicians and hospitals, not to mention, the patient experience. Students also learn medical terminology so that they are able to communicate effectively in the medical environment.

Medical Office Administration students will learn many skills due to the complex nature of healthcare. Students must think outside-of-the-box and solve problems. Students will learn to evaluate processes that enhance office administration resulting in increased efficiency, revenue, and employee morale.

For those who are interested in working in the medical setting but in a hands-off role, the medical office is a good choice who are interested in a rewarding career.

“I often encounter students who doubt themselves,” said Moser. “When I meet a student who doubts them self, I ask them to think of their dream and evaluate how they can accomplish the dream. I remind them that the dream of earning a degree and finding a career you love is possible. “
