RCC Ambassadors Learn, Work, And Earn

Feb 8, 2016

Under the guidance of Jennifer Lester, assistant director of enrollment services at Rockingham Community College, the RCC Student Ambassadors are hard at work promoting the college to prospective students and to the community.

This year ambassadors helped to lead orientation seminars for new students, participated in local high school student recruitment events, led campus tours, and served as marshals for the installation ceremony of Dr. Mark Kinlaw, RCC’s fifth president.

“Being an ambassador for the college has brought me out of my shell, explained Elizabeth Dixon. “ I came to campus as an introvert. It’s because of the ambassador activities that my communication skills are stronger.” Dixon is on track to graduate in May with an Associate in Science and an Associate in Art. She will attend High Point University in the fall and major in pharmacy.

“Being an ambassador helped me meet college staff across campus. For me, knowing who to ask for assistance made the college experience easier to navigate,” shared Brandi Faircloth. Faircloth also graduates this May. She will receive an Associate in in Applied Science in Office Administration. After working in her field of study for a couple of years, Faircloth plans to continue her education and study animal science.

“There are so many opportunities at RCC. I never would have participated in many of them had I not been selected as an ambassador. I’ve made lots of friends and gained confidence,” said Antonio Sanchez. Sanchez will earn an Associate in Science in May and plans to transfer to UNCG as a biology major. After graduation, his goal is to enroll in physician’s assistant school at Wake Forest University.

All three ambassadors agreed that RCC has the feel of a family atmosphere where faculty and staff go out of their way to help all students succeed no matter what their goal. Getting involved has prepared them for the next step in life.

The RCC Student Ambassador program provides a wealth of benefits for those who are selected. Ambassadors earn tuition reimbursement, gain valuable work experience, and develop leadership and communication skills, not to mention becoming a member of a prestigious, highly regarded team.
