RCC Baseball – Young Energy for the 2016 Season

Feb 9, 2016

WENTWORTH – The Rockingham Community College baseball program is excited to announce the opening of the 2016 spring season. Led by new faces, both on the coaching staff and on the roster, the Eagles are looking forward to great success this spring. Rockingham was a pre-season favorite, as mentioned by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) to capture a Region X Conference Title, as well as to finish second in the District.

The Eagles will be led by first year coaches, Reece Honeycutt and Dylan Pfingst. Coach Honeycutt comes from Rockingham County High School. Honeycutt is also the head coach of the Mooresville Spinners of the Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League (CVCL). Coach Pfingst joins RCC after multiple high school and showcase coaching stints. Coach Pfingst is the head coach of the Deep River Muddogs, which is also a member of the CVCL.

A total of sixteen freshman joined the RCC program this year, with the rest of the roster filling out with returning sophomores. Freshmen Brett Saunders (West Forsyth HS), Blake Brady (Crescent HS, SC), Alec Allred (Faith Christian/NC A&T) and Blaine Dalton (McMichael HS/WSSU) were named top incoming players by the NJCAA this season. All three players bring valuable tools with them in their first year of college baseball. Sophomores Willis Booth (Morehead HS), and Nik Szot (Mallard Creek HS) also received recognition from the NJCAA as top returning position players. The Eagles look to lean on the entire pitching staff this year, but standouts include three returning Sophomores Luke Westmoreland (East Forsyth HS), Kameron Winburn (Western Alamance HS), and Bret Unkel (Northern Guilford HS).

Several Eagles have already committed to continue their education and baseball careers this year, with many more on their way to do the same. Those commitments will be announced in the coming weeks, as our student-athletes officially make their decisions.

Rockingham will compete in 47 games, 30 of them being home games.
