Sustainable Trail Design, Construction and Maintenance Session Begins October 16

Rockingham Community College is offering a 4-day basic trail layout and construction session beginning October 16. Participants will learn how to design, layout, construct, and maintain sustainable trails.

The five essential elements of sustainable trails and how these elements are incorporated into actual trail layout and construction will be the focus of this unique session. Hands-on experiences will include desktop trail planning, design and layout, corridor flagging, and pin flagging of a trail alignment. Participants will gain trail construction and maintenance experience on existing trails.

The class will be held on Monday, October 16, 1-5:15 pm; Tuesday and Wednesday, October 17-18, 8 am – 5:15 pm; and Thursday, October 19, 8 am-12:15 pm. Trail building tools will be provided. Participants should bring lunch, snacks and plenty of drinking water. Appropriate dress for trail work is required and includes gloves, safety glasses, long pants, and closed toe shoes with boots being preferred.
