Associate Degree Nursing (LPN to ADN) Minimum Requirements

 

• Complete the RCC admissions process (  apply to RCC, submit all transcripts)
• Complete   BIO 168   and  BIO 169   with a grade of “C” or higher. (Applicants may be enrolled in BIO 169 in the Spring 2022 semester.)
• Complete   CHM 131   (with lab  CHM 131A  ) or   CHM 151   with a grade of “C” or higher. (Applicants may be enrolled in CHM 131 /A or  CHM 151  in the Spring 2022 semester.)
• Complete   ENG 111,    ENG 112,   PSY 150,   PSY 241, and humanities elective (  ART 111,   ART 114,   ART 115,   MUS 110,   MUS 112,   PHI 215,   PHI 240, or   HUM 115   ) with a grade of “C” or higher. (Applicants may be enrolled in Spring 2022.)
• Have a 2.8 GPA or higher from all completed pre-requisite and nursing general education courses. GPA calculation includes:
  • BIO 168,   BIO 169,
  • CHM 131  /A
  • ENG 111 ,  ENG 112
  • PSY 150,   PSY 241
  • humanities elective (  ART 111,   ART 114,   ART 115,   MUS 110,   MUS 112,   PHI 215,   PHI 240, or   HUM 115  )
• Be in Satisfactory Academic Standing with Rockingham Community College (2.0 or higher RCC cumulative GPA).
• Hold current certification in   Adult and Child CPR   issued by the American Heart Association.
• Hold current unrestricted licensure as a  Licensed Practical Nurse  in North Carolina.
• Must have graduated from an approved Practical Nursing program.
• Complete National Acceleration Challenge Examination (NACE) with a score of 70% or higher. Scores are valid for 24 months (2 years) from date of application.
• Attend a mandatory LPN to ADN Nursing Information Session in the 2021/2022 academic year.

Associate Degree Nursing: LPN to ADN Option

The LPN to ADN curriculum is designed for students who have already met the requirements to be a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and wish to further their education to earn an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN). Students admitted to the LPN to ADN option must successfully complete the following courses with a “C” or higher prior to enrolling in the first nursing class:

BIO 169	Human Anatomy and Physiology II
Humanities/Fine Arts Elective

Upon successful completion of NUR 117, NUR 118, NUR 221, and NUR 223, LPN to ADN program students are awarded credit for the lower level Associate Degree Nursing NUR prefix courses.

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

1. Apply the nursing process to provide safe patient care.
2. Determine healthcare education needs for specific populations, and develop and implement teaching plans.
3. Communicate professionally and effectively with patients, families, and members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
4. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to advocate for patients.
5. Integrate evidence-based practice into clinical decision-making.
6. Demonstrate caring behaviors in implementing culturally competent, patient-centered nursing care to diverse patients across the lifespan.
7. Utilize informatics to access, manage, and communicate patient information and validate best practices.

Employment of registered nurses is projected to grow 7% from 2019 to 2029, faster than the average for all occupations. Growth will occur for a number of reasons, including an increased emphasis on preventive care; increasing rates of chronic conditions, such as diabetes and obesity; and demand for healthcare services from the baby-boom population, as this group leads longer and more active lives.

LPN to ADN Program Costs

Associate Degree Nursing students in the LPN to ADN program should be prepared to incur additional expenses beyond college fees and tuition.
