Associate in Applied Science

The Cosmetology curriculum is designed to provide competency-based knowledge, scientific/artistic principles, and hands on fundamentals associated with the cosmetology industry. The curriculum provides a simulated salon environment which enables students to develop manipulative skills.

Course work includes instruction in all phases of professional imaging, hair design, chemical processes, skin care, nail care, multi-cultural practices, business/computer principles, product knowledge, and other selected topics.

Graduates should qualify to sit for the State Board of Cosmetic Arts examination. Upon successfully passing the State Board exam, graduates will be issued a license. Employment is available in beauty salons and related businesses.

In addition to tuition, cosmetology students are required to purchase text books and a Cosmetology Kit $1200. Students must also purchase two sets of solid black or solid white scrub uniforms at an estimated cost of $35 each, and malpractice insurance at $32 per year.

Employment Competencies

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate correct execution of all cosmetology techniques utilizing safe and sanitary practices guided by industry recognized decontamination principles and guidelines.
  2. Demonstrate with proficiency the ability to transfer what is read and learned into physical services, whether on the manikin or client.
  3. Communicate with customers using language and verbal demeanor in a professional manner, and in keeping with cosmetology norms.
  4. Evaluate client requests and analyze hair and scalp conditions in preparing treatment plans to be utilized when rendering client services.
