This online course focuses on the fundamentals of financial accounting concepts for students seeking a basic understanding of terminology and principles. Topics include the accounting cycle, journal entries, T-accounts, adjusting entries, and financial accounting statements. Upon completion, students should have a practical understanding of basic accounting principles, transactions, and operations. Prepayment of tuition is required.

Auctioneering
Auctioneering is brand new to RCC, and is one of only three community colleges accredited to offer the course in North Carolina. Students can earn the knowledge to become licensed and be hired to sell real estate, antique/collectible vehicles, valuable art/jewelry, antiques, and household contents. Students will learn a wide variety of skills, including bid calling, voice control, rules/regulations, auctioneering ethics, and handling sale proceeds/escrow accounts. The course is taught by two licensed Auctioneers, a licensed Real Estate broker, a District Court Judge, and a variety of other knowlegable instructors. Upon completion of the 96-hour course, students can apply for licensure with the N.C. Auctioneer Licensing Board. The license has reciprocity in 17 other states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin. Two versions of the course are offered: an 18-week course that meets two evenings a week, and an intense two-week course perfect for out-of-towners to finish quickly. This course is eligible for RCC’s Eagle Train & Gain Scholarship. Auctioneer examinations are taken at the NC Auctioneer Licensing Board’s office in Raleigh and the exam fee is paid by the individual directly to the Board.

Basic MIG Welding
This program introduces gas metal arc welding and flux core arc welding processes. Topics include equipment set up and fillet and grove weld with emphasis on application of GMAW and FCAW electrodes on steel plate, as well as basic welding measurement and print reading. Upon completion, students will have the knowledge base to seek employment as entry level MIG welders. This course also prepares students to continue into the RCC Welding Technology certificate and diploma programs, with possible articulation upon successful completion and approved articulation application process.

Bilingual Cosmetology
Bilingual Cosmetology provides English and Spanish-speaking students with hands-on training in a simulated salon environment. Course work includes instructions in all phases of professional imaging, hair design, chemical processes, skin care, nail care, multi-cultural practices, business/computer principles, product knowledge, and other selected topics. The program consists of three sessions. Sessions I and II prepare students for the State Board of Cosmetic Arts exam for an apprentice license (1,200 hours) and completion of Session III prepares students for a license (1,500 hours). There is a required orientation for all students to learn about textbooks, kits, uniforms, and the program schedule.
Students may qualify for scholarship opportunities.
RCC also offers an associates degree and diploma in cosmetology.

Computer Basics

Customer Service

This online course stresses the importance of delivering quality customer service. Emphasis is placed on customer service from the company’s point of view as well as the customers. Students will study skills in communication, telephone etiquette, netiquette, time management, and problem-solving. Students will also learn how to anticipate customer needs and effectively handle customer relations. Tuition prepayment required.

Effective Teacher Training
This 36-hour course is designed to provide teacher assistants and substitutes with principles and practices of effective teaching and is recognized by the NC Department of Public Instruction. The extensive curriculum focuses on skills for basic classroom management, childhood development, and instructional techniques. In addition to this course, the Career Readiness Certificate is recommended for greater employment opportunities. Questions about employment with the Rockingham County Public School system, including whether you may be exempt from this class as a condition of becoming employed with RCS, should be directed to the Human Resources Department at Rockingham County Schools at 336-627-2600. Students must have a high school diploma or GED and must be at least 18 years old to enroll in this class. Purchase required textbook at the RCC Bookstore: “First Days of School, 5th edition,” approximately $32.

This the first in a series of two classes offered through the NC FAST program (the second class is HSE-3220 Income Maintenance Caseworker: NC Fast Phase 2 ). Both classes must be successfully completed to gain certification. This certification series is for students who are interested in working for the N.C. Notary Public

Participants learn the requirements and qualifications of the notary public office. Requirements for attestation, fees, general powers and limitations, certifications, oaths, affirmations and affidavits are taught. NC Notaries must have a high school diploma or GED; must be at least 18 years old; read, write, and speak English; have no felony convictions; and successfully complete this approved notary course. Additional costs include: commission fee to Secretary of State, $50; swearing in at the courthouse, $10; textbook required for class, $28; notary seal, $20-$40 (approx. cost). Registration InformationOBD/IM Emissions Training
This course prepares auto technicians and service personnel to be safety and emission inspectors for motor vehicles. It includes regulations and test inspection procedures. Students learn to inspect a vehicle and gain the skills necessary to pass the qualification exams for certification as a safety and emissions inspector at a licensed inspection station. Cash will not be accepted by the instructor. The cost of this class includes a $5 fee for the course manual. Classes are held on campus, plus there is a hands-on portion held at Jumper’s Auto Service at 124 N. Fieldcrest Road, Eden.
