Pinnix, Wheeler win Student Art Show

Apr 29, 2024

Two students received Presidential Awards for their creative works submitted into the Spring Student Art Show at Rockingham Community College on April 25.

Trinity Pinnix of Eden won the award for her 3D pottery piece, “The Dance.”

Emily Wheeler of Eden won the award for her 2D oil painting, “Vadim Dolgov Artist Study.”

RCC President Dr. Mark Kinlaw chose the winning 2D and 3D pieces after viewing the show earlier in the week, and was on hand during the closing reception to recognize the two students.

“This was hard. I’m really impressed with all of the work, not just the winners. This is a really talented group this year, and I really enjoyed walking through and looking at everything,” Dr. Kinlaw said. “My congratulations to all of you, and to our instructors that instruct you through all of this – they’ve done a fabulous job,” Kinlaw said.

The winning pieces are now displayed in the Gerald James Library, 315 Wrenn Memorial Road, Wentworth.

RCC offers an Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts degree, with many graduates continuing to a four-year college or university to complete a Bachelor in Fine Arts or a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Art. RCC’s two-year degree also prepares students to enter the workforce directly upon graduation as a studio artist, designer, or creative entrepreneur.
